Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I see your previous work?

I’ve been building websites for the better part of a decade. Click here to view a few select examples.

What do I need to provide before the project starts?

I’ll give you a list of what I need at the start of the project. In a nutshell, I’ll need all tech access, including domain registrar and hosting login info, as well as all of your content. This includes text, photos, logo and anything else that will be used as part of the project. You’ll also need to set aside enough time to take this project to the finish line.

Why does it have to be done with an end date?

This ensures mutual focus, momentum and quick decisions so we can move on to the next step in the process. It also means you’ll know the exact date you can crack open a few beers to celebrate the launch of your new website.

What if you (Peter) miss a deadline?

To date, this has never happened. If it does, I’ll gladly knock 10% off the project total.

What if I (the client) miss a deadline?

This whole process works because we both have strict deadlines. If you can’t dedicate time to the project, we might not be a good fit. That said, if it should work, but you can’t keep up your end of the agreement for some reason, billing at my standard rate of $100/hour starts after the end date passes.

What is a round of revisions?

One round of revisions means that you give me a single list of all the changes you’d like to see in the current mockup. Because this work is done on a timeline, it’s important to sum up all your thoughts and changes in a single place (one call or one email), and hand those over to me.

Is ecommerce included?

Yes and no. I don’t do large ecommerce websites with thousands of products, or projects that require a complex shopping solution. I can, however, set up a basic ecommerce solution for you, or advise you on how to sell your products simply and effectively.

Where is the website hosted?

If you choose to host your website with me, I use Panthur for basic hosting. They are an Australian company with servers located at the APDataCentre in Sydney. For premium WordPress hosting, I use FlyWheel. Premium hosting is a fantastic option if you’re wanting increased speeds and improved security. Daily backups, automatic updates and regular server maintenance are also included.

What happens after the website is launched?

Once your website is launched, I provide 30 days of support to make sure any bugs have been ironed out. After this, my support fee of $100/hour will apply for any changes to the website.

How long will it take to appear at the top of Google?

The time it takes for your website to appear on page 1 of Google depends on a number of factors. It depends on the search phrase people are using to find your website and the number of other websites that are also available for those search phrases.

Nobody can truly say how long it will take for your website to appear at the top of search engine results pages (including people who actually work for Google), however there are a number of factors that can improve your chances. Building your website on WordPress is a good start as WordPress has some great Search Engine Optimisation fundamentals built-in. Creating unique and interesting content on a regular basis for your website is also critical to increase your visibility amongst search engines. Launching your website and then forgetting about it is a surefire way to get lost amongst the noise.

If you would like to talk to more about your search engine strategy, just let me know.

How will I know if anyone is visiting my website?

I will install Google analytics software on your new website and give you access to the Google analytics account where you can see a wide range of statistics about your website including number of visits, page views and the amount of time people are spending on your website.

What happens if I want to add some features to the website while you’re building it?

While I like to be flexible and responsive to your needs, I also like to deliver what I promise within the time frames and budgets I have allowed. If you ask me to add new features to your website while I am building it, I will most likely ask why. If we agree that your new request will help achieve your objectives then I will be more than happy to oblige. If your new feature is not directly tied to your original objectives then I will suggest to schedule it for a second iteration of the website once it has been launched.

Why do you use WordPress?

WordPress is open source content management software and currently powers around 35% of all websites on the Internet. The project is contributed to by tens of thousands of developers all over the world and is growing from strength to strength. WordPress allows me to develop flexible and customisable websites to modern standards and observes web development best practices. On top of this, the community of web developers that use WordPress reaches far and wide, allowing me to tap in to this collective intelligence and bring that wealth of experience to your project.
